Overview:

Bay Area Children First is a non-profit organization. We offer quality psychotherapy on a sliding scale -- based on your ability to pay. Our staff consists of skilled and caring post-graduate Marriage Family Therapist Interns (MFTIs) and experienced licensed clinicians.

Our services include:

  • Individual Therapy for Adults and Children
  • Relationship Counseling for Couples
  • Family Therapy
  • Therapy Groups
  • Psycho-social education
  • Parenting Classes and Support Groups
  • On-site mental health consultation for teachers of preschools or childcare centers

We will conduct an intake interview over the phone and match you with the right therapist based on your needs, schedule, and financial requirements when and if their case is accepted. We no longer accept cases without following this careful screening process.

  • Individuals challenged by depression, anxiety, or phobias
  • Play therapy for children with behavioral problems, or who are experiencing grief, loss, or other problems of transition
  • People seeking self-discovery and growth through creative therapy modes, such as drama, art, and sand tray therapies
  • Couples counseling
  • Pre-marital counseling
  • Sexual and gender identity issues
  • Career counseling
  • Support for parents of children going through difficult developmental stages
  • Therapy for families going through divorce

Private TSV Intake Referrals/Requests: Please ask the party who is considering our service to go to the website and download and complete the "Private Intake" form. The completed form and a screening fee of $30 can be forwarded to our Berkeley offices via U.S. post or fax (510) 883-9314 to the attention of Rhonda M. Lawrence, MFT. Both parties to the case need to submit separate, completed intake forms and screening fees. I will be making arrangements for any ongoing intakes that I'm working on during my absence. Please do NOT tell anyone that "we can or will take their case." Please just assure them that we have a screening process and completing the intake documents is the way to begin this process. If anyone has any questions about availability of clinicians or facilities, assure them that these logistical details will be worked out when and if their case is accepted. We no longer accept cases without following this careful screening process.
