Art Therapy for Expectant Moms

Jana Silverman, MFTI, is an art therapist specializing in work with children and women entering into, or experiencing, new motherhood.

On my journey towards becoming a Marriage Family Therapist, I have also entered the path of motherhood. There was no training or internship required. I did not need supervision or exams to become the most influential person in my children's lives - their mother. My pregnancies and motherhood have given me the chance to grow in a way that no licensing process could. Even though I can't count those hours as ECE (early childhood education) experiences, they have certainly prepared me to help my clients to survive and thrive on their journeys involving motherhood.

In order to help women prepare, discuss, and acknowledge experiences and challenges during pregnancy and early motherhood, I am offering two art therapy groups: one for pregnant women and another for mothers of young children. The groups offer a safe environment to explore ways of coping with the physical, emotional and lifestyle transitions that come with pregnancy and new parenthood.
